Sermon 11-19-17 “Being Thankful; Despite the Hard Days.”

Posted on Updated on

crossPastor Floyd start by asking who has something to be thankful for. He then preaches from Psalm 30.

Psalm 30:1-5 (KJV)

30 I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

The Five Solas of the Reformation – Soli Deo Gloria

Posted on Updated on

Five-Solas-ReformationSoli Deo Gloria is the teaching that all glory is to be due to God alone, since salvation is accomplished solely through His will and action — not only the gift of the all-sufficient atonement of Jesus on the cross but also the gift of faith in that atonement, created in the heart of the believer by the Holy Spirit.

The beginning of this sermon includes a dramatic portrayal of Martin Luther discussing the 95 theses.

The Five Solas of the Reformation – Solo Christo

Posted on Updated on

Five-Solas-ReformationSolus Christus, or “only Christ”, excludes the priestly class as necessary for sacraments. Solus Christus is the teaching that Christ is the only mediator between God and man, and that there is salvation through no other (hence, the phrase is sometimes rendered in the ablative case, solo Christo, meaning that salvation is “by Christ alone”).

The Five Solas of the Reformation – Sola gratia

Posted on Updated on

Five-Solas-ReformationSola gratia, or “only grace”, specifically excludes the merit done by a person as part of achieving salvation. Sola gratia is the teaching that salvation comes by divine grace or “unmerited favor” only, not as something merited by the sinner.

The Five Solas of the Reformation – Sola Scriptura

Posted on Updated on

Five-Solas-ReformationSola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.

Hebrews 12:1-4 (KJV) 12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
